On November 29th 2025 at the George Price Center in Belmopan the BCF made history by hosting our first FIDE Rated event! The Belize Grand Swiss 2025 featured 2 sections, Master and Challengers, playing 5 rounds with 30+0 rapid time control. The winner of the masters section earns the Belize National Master Title.


30 players from Stann Creek, Cayo, Belize, Orange Walk and Corozal all attended the event!


National Arbiter John Newport served as chief arbiter for the event.

Participating in the event from Belize's top 20 we had Reigning National Champion Alfred Awe, Rank 6 Kenet Perez, Rank 8 Kuang Lin, Rank 11 Nathaniel Reyes, Rank 13 Cristobal Campos and Rank 16 Joseph Koop.

In the most dramatic round of the tournament with 4 players tied for first.


In board 3, Oliver Andrade played the role of upset with a great win against Nathaniel Reyes denying Reyes a podium finish.

In board 2, the battle between Kenet Perez and Kuang Lin ended peacefully in a draw.


In board 1, with Nathaniel losing and Perez drawing his game, the winner between Cristobal Campos and Alfred Awe would determine the winner of the Belize Grand Swiss 2025

After being in a defensive position for most of the game, Alfred Awe blundered his queen in time pressure to give Campos the win.


With his victory over the National Champion, Cristobal win the Belize Grand Swiss 2025 and becomes Belize's 3rd National Master!
