Protocol for selecting National Teams

Selection for the National Team will be held every two years and will coincide with the National Championship Cycle.

Selection Criteria for the National Team shall be as follows:

Belize National Champion
National Championship Runner-up
Belize Grand Swiss Winner
Belize Grand Swiss Runner-Up
Challengers 2nd
Challengers 3rd
Challengers 4th
Highest BCF Rated Player
Board Selected Player

Note:

Highest Rated Players shall be selected following the conclusion of the National Championship Cycle and will not consider the Winner of the National Championship, Championship Runner-up or the Winner and runner-up of the Belize Grand Swiss.
Players must have competed in at least four tournaments throughout the two year period (2024/2025).
Only Belizeans will qualify for the national team.
Board Selected player must be in top 20

Belize Olympiad Team

Finalization of the Belize Olympiad Team will be held four Months prior to the FIDE Chess Olympiad.

Throughout the year following the selection of the National Team, players will compete in several Training Camps. At the conclusion of the training camps, the top five players in the National Team will be selected to represent Belize at the FIDE Chess Olympiad.
